Shillong, Oct 12: Security forces successfully defused an improvised explosive device (IED) located at the Umsning market in the Ri-Bhoi district of Meghalaya, as reported by local police on Sunday.

A Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS), along with a K-9 unit, was promptly dispatched to the scene. Upon thorough examination, the teams confirmed the presence of explosives, leading to the safe neutralization of the IED by the BDDS team shortly thereafter.
"Upon analysis, it was determined that the IED contained 4.7 kg of gelatine, 10 detonators, and approximately 50 iron rods intended as shrapnel," Singh explained.
All materials were confiscated in accordance with standard operating procedures, ensuring all safety measures were observed, he added.
Fortunately, there were no casualties or property damage during the operation.
A case has been filed, and investigations are ongoing. Authorities have identified a suspect and are actively pursuing his arrest, the SP noted.
